FAQ
Here are some questions we get about eloping in Sydney. If you can’t find an answer to your question please contact us.
Sydney is subject to the laws of New South Wales, which means there are certain procedures you must follow:
- Your celebrant will submit the Notice of Intended Marriage form to the government and must be done at least 30 days before the wedding takes place.
- Both partners will need to sign a Declaration of No Impediment which states that there is nothing obstructing this marriage.
- After vows are spoken three marriage certificates must be signed (wedding certificate, marriage register and registry paper).
- Two witnesses present in order to make the marriage legally binding.
- That’s it! Now you’re legally married.
There are pros and cons to each season in Sydney! You may think that winter is a bad time for an elopement but it offers some benefits: certain places are less crowded which gives you more options on the venue and you don’t have to be in the sweltering heat all day.
The only thing that we’d really watch out for is rainy season. People certainly still get eloped in rainy season but we’d suggest to find a place with a bit of cover just in case it pours. You can still get stunning photos in the rain if you’re the kind of couple to be a bit adventurous. Not everyone has a photo laughing in the rain with a drenched suit and wedding dress!
Our packages start at around $850 and go up from there. If you’d like a photographer you’re looking at a minimum of around $1,900. Since every elopement is different keep in mind that prices may fluctuate depending on what you’d like, where you’d like it and what day of the week you’d like it to happen on.
Please not that our prices do not include permits for your venue. Some of the best places to elope in Sydney can be used for free though, you just need to fill out the permit which we can help you do.
Sydney has hundreds of public venues that you can elope at but it all depends on the council that represents that region. Some councils allow elopements to happen for free with a permit. Others charge an hourly rate with a permit. Some don’t require a permit at all. We have all of this information ready on hand, so just ask your Eloped planner and we’d be happy to help pick the perfect venue.
Yes, you need two witnesses 18+ at the ceremony in order to make the wedding legally binding. They need to sign the official marriage certificates. This is a requirement across Australia. If you can’t provide two witnesses, we can provide them for you. Just let us know and we can give you pricing on witnesses.
There is a 30 day waiting period once you’ve submitted your Notice of Intended Marriage in NSW. That means we need at least 30 days, and probably more, in order to get you legally married. There are a few exceptions to the rule which are laid out in the Marriage Regulations Act but you then need to get it authorised through a prescribed authority. We can try to help if you’re in a rush but definitely prefer if you go through the regular 30 day route.
If you’re coming from out of town, you’re in luck! There are so many incredible places to stay in Sydney. If you want to treat yourselves with views of the Opera House, the Park Hyatt is an iconic place to stay. It’s not cheap but is an incredible place to spend one night to celebrate your elopement. There are also lots of Airbnbs scattered around Sydney that you can find close to your venue, whether you’re in North Sydney or Bondi.
