Places to elope in Byron Bay

Byron Bay has a lot of public land that can be used as a small wedding/elopement venue. Some require a permit with a fee, while others just require permission from the council. We can help you pick out an idyllic location.

Wategos Beach

Wategos is a cute and peaceful beach located nearby to Byron town centre. You can stay at Raes on Wategos boutique retreat, or pop up for a delicious lunch or dinner.

Cape Byron Lighthouse

Elope at the most easterly point in Australia at the Cape Byron Lighthouse. It's a romantic location with a perfect little lawn for your ceremony with great photo opportunities.

Broken Head

Broken Head is an absolutely stunning, secluded beach that allows small weddings. Take some pictures with your loved one and your feet in the sand.

Tallow Beach & Cosy Corner

Take a stroll along Tallow Beach and take pictures on your way to Cosy Corner. It feels quite secluded, get away from the crowds and have some privacy.

Palm Valley

Palm Valley offers a great picnic area overlooking the Pass beach which is a fantastic spot. Also, take some pictures amongst the trees in the walking path.

How does the elopement process work?

Once you speak with your elopement planner and finalize your vision of the day, we’ll introduce you to your celebrant. They will require some information to fill out the Notice of Intended Marriage, which legally must be submitted at least 30 days before the wedding day. You will also be introduced to any other vendors who are a part of the day (photographer, etc.) so you can ask any questions you have. There are a few legal necessities before the day like having both partners signa Declaration of No Impediment but we’ll help out with all of that. It’s really smooth sailing to the elopement day from there.

What is the best time of year to elope in Byron Bay?

There isn’t necessarily a ‘best time’ to get eloped in Byron! While summer seems like the obvious choice it can be quite crowded and there is also a higher chance of rain. Byron is lovely in the winter even though you may not be going into the water. It really depends on what kind of vibe you’re looking for as a couple. Please ask if you have questions about temperature, rain, etc. and we’d be happy to help.

Where can I elope in Byron?

Byron Bay and the surrounding area have a number of public venues including beaches, parks and, of course, the lighthouse, which you can have your micro wedding at and take photos around. For most locations you must apply for a permit which we can help out with. By having an intimate elopement you are able to book venues that would never allow a large wedding.
